Explore the mysteries of Scent with an Otterhound |
|
Having only come into the general public domain quite recently, the Otterhound has so far not been too affected by the excesses of the show ring. We want to keep it that way and owner’s can help to ensure this by doing what comes naturally with their hound, using it to hunt. Finding a lost child or elderly person in the forest may seem quite different from hunting otters- but both depend on their hunting instinct combined with an amazing sense of smell. Coupled to their dark wet sensor is a processor which is a good deal larger than the average dog, it can memorise and discriminate between thousands of different smells and keep hunting only the one that you ask it to follow. They are an incredibly robust and enthusiastic breed which we can use taking them tracking and trailing in the harshest of country.
